A Full Kitchen Remodel in a Century-Old Seattle Home
When Davitt and Bryan were referred to Renovision Design & Build by close friends, they had already fallen in love with the character of their century-old Seattle home. The house had history, charm, and plenty of potential, but its dark and closed-off kitchen no longer supported the way they wanted to live.
Like many homeowners considering a remodel in an older house, they were concerned about what might be hidden behind the walls. Outdated building systems, structural surprises, and unexpected repairs can make renovating a 100-year-old home feel overwhelming. Davitt and Bryan wanted a more functional and welcoming kitchen, but they also needed an experienced design-build team they could trust to manage the unknowns.
Designing a Kitchen Around the Homeโs Character
The project began with a collaborative design phase. We worked closely with Davitt and Bryan to understand how they used their kitchen, what was not working, and what they wanted the remodeled space to feel like.
The goal was to create a brighter, more functional kitchen without losing the historic character that made the Seattle home special. Once the layout and design were finalized, our construction team was ready to bring that vision to life.
Navigating the Challenges of an Older Seattle Home
As demolition began and the existing kitchen was opened up, we encountered some of the hidden conditions that commonly appear during historic home renovations. Our team evaluated each issue, developed practical solutions, and kept the project moving forward.
By managing the design and construction process under one team, we were able to address unexpected conditions while keeping Davitt and Bryan informed throughout the remodel. Instead of having to coordinate multiple contractors and make difficult decisions alone, they could focus on watching their new kitchen take shape.
A Brighter and More Functional Kitchen
Over the course of two months, the former dark and enclosed kitchen was transformed into a bright, welcoming, and functional space designed for everyday living.
The completed kitchen provides the comfort and usability Davitt and Bryan wanted while respecting the age and architectural character of their home. It feels updated without feeling disconnected from the rest of the house.
What began as an intimidating renovation became a rewarding transformation. Davitt and Bryan now have a kitchen that supports modern life while continuing the story of their century-old Seattle home.
At Renovision Design & Build, we believe older homes deserve thoughtful solutions rather than one-size-fits-all renovations. We are proud to have helped Davitt and Bryan begin a new chapter in a home they already loved.
